maple_leaf Duel in the Desert
16 January 2010
Five Canadian Veterans attended the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas on January 8-10, 2010. Veronika Ho and George Lavorato fenced especially well in a tough Combined and Mixed foil field.

     Senior Women's Epee A2 Event
          Lorraine Hoyne - 26th

Vet Combined Women's Epee E1 Event
          Lorraine Hoyne - 9th

Vet Combined Mixed Foil A1 Event
          Veronika Ho - 14th
          George Lavorato - 15th
          Gaby Weisz - 16th
          Elie Newman - 23rd

The event was very well organized and took place in a hotel ball room on 16 strips. Last year's senior winners fenced this year's winners for prize money of $500-1000 at a Gala evening event. Seeing ladies in gowns and gentlemen in black tie was quite different from other events, it was a lot of fun (as veteran events always are). Canadian Veterans should keep in mind that this event will repeat next year at the same time. - Gaby Weisz
