Tauberbischofsheim, Germany – Canadian
Olympic fencing star Sherraine MacKay is on fire!
MacKay of Brooks, Alberta, continued her hot
streak today winning a third consecutive World Cup title
defeating, world No.2, Imke Duplitzer of Germany 15-10 in the
final of the Women’s Epee Würth World Cup.
“People have been coming up and saying how amazing it is to
have won so many world cups in a row like this and all I can say
that is an unbelievable feeling.” shared MacKay, who is
currently ranked No.1 in world.
In her first match, MacKay disposed of Germany’s
Angelika Kappen 15-4 followed by convincing victories over
Melanie Soiron of France 15-9, Switzerland’s Diana Romagnoli
Takouka 15-6, Sonja Tol of the Netherlands in the quarterfinals
15-12.
For the third time this season MacKay out poked
No.3 ranked Laura Flessel-Colovic of France in the semis 15-13
to reach the final.
France’s Marysa Baradji-Duchene and
Flessel-Colovic take home the bronze medals.
“What makes this victory even more special is
that my sister, who lives in a neighbouring town in Germany, was
able to come and watch!” MacKay said, who currently trains in
Budapest, Hungary.
MacKay also had the support and coaching
assistance from fellow Canadian Leigh Voigt of Toronto, who
finished 65th overall.
There were 138 competitors at the event.
